Is there any guide book which contains all graduate programs that are offered by US universities?
I would like to do a master in accounting or something in that field, even though my BBA was in liberal arts.
So, I am looking for a book summarizing what programs universities offer and their prices.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Oh, also, I am in Pennsylvania, so I am looking for something in that state, or not too far, preferably.

Christian Universities

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

For many students deciding on the right university for the next step in their education can be a very daunting one. There are so many factors to consider; especially as these years are very important as a student grows not only intellectually, but also socially, emotionally, spiritually and so on. When deciding upon a school, many students with an already religious background may opt for a Christian University program. These universities are based on the foundation of producing strong, capable and moral young people, with a sense of duty to God to others.

There are, however, many differences between the Christian Universities as there is with secular schools. There are Jesuit and Catholic schools, large universities, small colleges and various codes of practice when it comes to dress and moral ethics etc. The programs offered within Christian Universities also vary hugely. Some universities may offer a broad range of programs on all sorts of topics while others may specialize in a just a few areas.

The various resources offered are also wide ranging and should be researched thoroughly. There are many different fees charged and it pays consider the various payment options and possible aid that might be available. Other things to look at within Christian universities are the support framework that exists for students on an n academic level and also how much various schools differ in their way of delivering spiritual encouragement, and what they expect from a student in terms of commitment to voluntary work, service duties and mission trips.

A student specifically looking to serve God may choose a Bible College or seminary that focuses on guiding students toward a career in ministry. Then there are Baptist schools that are primarily focused on turning out moral and capable young people that do not separate God from personal, professional or any other part of their lives, whatever their career path. The Catholic schools teach many different subjects down to Islam and Ancient Greece but they are firmly rooted in the deep faith of Catholicism which may be off-putting for secular students or those from a different religion.

So, there are many things to consider when deciding on the right Christian University. Depending on personal preference and how strongly you may want to maintain a decent and moral lifestyle, there are many choices out there.

Christian Universities Online

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

There are lots of different reasons why a student may choose one school over another to continue their education. Although the educational facilities offered are an integral part of choosing a college there are many other features to look at; dress codes, athletic opportunities, social opportunities and personal and religious inclination all have a part to play when considering a college for further learning.

Among these are a sizeable number of Christian Universities Online that offer an excellent education alongside a spiritually oriented university lifestyle. Christian Universities Online are focused deeply upon the role of the student and his or her relationship with God or religious worship.

Many Christian Universities Online will offer numerous degrees within a theological department or seminary program. These may include Christian counseling, Christian ministry, religious and theological studies, Bible studies, youth ministry and many others. Even classes that are considered secular, such as the liberal arts or science programs, usually integrate some form of religious affiliation or motivation.

Students are required to set an example as moral leaders and to encourage the Word of God as part of their responsibility. They may be expected to be present at all religious services and offer to play a part in voluntary groups or sometimes even missionary journeys. A student’s lifestyle and professional activities are encouraged to include, if not center upon, a religious approach to college life.

Most Christian Universities have an obligatory spiritual or religious code that is manifest in all areas of college life. They try to instil in the student the value of welcoming God or spirituality into all facets of their college lifestyle. In a traditional campus setting, co-educational dorms are not likely to exist in a Christian University and some may even impose a dress code.

Just like secular schools, Christian Universities are subject to regional and/or national accreditation and because a school is religiously associated it does not mean that it is any better or worse than any other school. All Christian Universities Online should be considered on their own merits, and it is the job of the student to consider all the factors that a college may offer, whether it is a strong spiritual foundation, an exceptional record of academia, or co-educational dorm rooms!

The World’s Top-500 universities (2008) are mainly located in Europe (n=210; 40%), the Americas (n=190; 40%) and the Asian/Pacific region (n=100; 20%). There are 15 universities located in Australia, representing 3% of the World’s Top-500 universities and 15% of the universities in the Asian/Pacific region.

The Top-5 universities in Australia are: 1. Australian National University (ranked 59th in the world); 2.University of Melbourne (73rd); 3.University of Sydney (97th); 4. University of Queensland (101-151) and University of Western Australia (101-151). As with many countries, the top university is located in the capital city (Canberra).

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

An assessment carried out by AllAboutUni.com reveals that 8 of Germany’s 9 universities of Excellence are included in the World’s Top-500 universities. AllAboutUni.com is an independent, global and inter-active website where visitors can obtain information about universities (global rankings, student reviews, university news and campus pictures). It publishes regular reports on universities around the world.

The analysis is based on a ranking of the World’s Top-500 Universities produced by the Institute of Higher Education at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (click here). Several indicators of academic or research performance are used to establish the ranking, these include staff winning Nobel Prizes, highly cited researchers and articles indexed in major citation indices. The rankings have been published since 2003, with the 2008 ranking published on 15 August 2008.

The German Federal Ministry of Education and the German Research Foundation launched an Excellence Initiative to promote research in Germany and to enhance the international visibility of German universities (click here). As part of this initiative, nine universities of Excellence were selected: the Free University of Berlin, the Ludgwig Maximilian University of Munich, the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, the Technical University of Munich, the University of Constance, the Unviersity of Freiburg, the University of Göttingen, the University of Heidelberg and the Unversity of Karlsruhe. German universities (a total of 40 universities) are well represented in the World’s Top-500 universities compared to most other European countries (click here). However, compared to the US (159 universities) and the United Kingdom (42 universities) it performs poorly, especially in the World’s Top-25 universities (click here). Of the nine universities of Excellence, five are in the World’s Top-100 universities (Munich (55), Technical University of Munich (57), Heidelberg (67), Göttingen (90) and Freiburg (96)), two are in the World’s Top-201-302 universities (Aachen and Karlsruhe) and one is in the World’s Top-303-401 universities (Constance).

It is interesting to note that 6 of the 9 universities of Excellence are based in the southern States (Länder) of Baden-Württemberg (4) and Bavaria (2) (click here). It is surprising to note that the University of Bonn – a university ranked 99th in the World’s Top-500 universities – is not included in the nine universities of Excellence. Finally, the Free University of Berlin – which is a university of Excellence – is not included the World’s Top-500 Universities.
