What You Need To Comprehend About A Distance Learning Graduate Program

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

If you’ve been on the internet for more than five minutes, you are sure to be bombarded with web ads for distance learning graduate programs. One of the reasons why there are so many ads for distance learning graduate programs is that they are becoming more and more acceptable in the public view. But you need to have common sense about you when selecting a distance learning graduate program for yourself.

Not For The Health Profession

In general, any distance learning graduate program aimed at any kind of health care professional – whether it’s for conventional or alternative medicine – is not going to be a legitimate degree, but rather just a really expensive piece of paper. Think about it – would you want to go to an acupuncturist who didn’t go to a real school and learning with real bodies, but got a distance learning graduate program?

That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the idea still applies. There have been chiropractors to CEOs of big companies who have been ferreted out for having fake degrees. The person might still be competent in the job and honestly thought the degree was legitimate, but the degree is still fake. There are so many fraudsters, that it’s hard to get to all of them.

But in some professions, like business, going through a distance learning MBA program is considered just as legitimate a degree as one earned by the traditional methods. This is because of the nature of the work. You can usually do most office work in your head or on the computer. Telecommuting for office work is going up, so naturally, so is getting the education for this line of work.

You Get What You Pay For

Distance learning graduate programs are not cheap. You are looking at least five figures here for your eventual price tag. The average cost of an online MBA is about $10,000 (US). And you will not be allowed to slack off. You will have to hit the books just as hard as someone who has to go to a real classroom. People pay up because it means getting promotions and being qualified for high paying jobs.

Before you sign up for such an expense, be sure your potential distance learning graduate program is accredited. Check with your state’s Department of Education. You also want to check the website of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, a non-profit watchdog of graduate degrees on offer.

University Online Business Program Specifics

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

It is true that being in a business is one of the world’s most common ways to earn extra bucks these days. However, even though a lot of people attest to its ease, being successful in this field will always be dependent on one’s university online business experience. Indeed, a very wide knowledge and solid skills are required from an entrepreneur for a sure success in any business. Hence, it is important for a person to grab a good education from a reputable online business program.

Though there are a lot of online business universities and schools across the web, it is not enough that you enroll to just any of them. It is necessary for you to choose the one that can provide you the best knowledge and techniques in the end.  To help you in the selection process, here are some things you must look for in an online business program before getting yourself enrolled:

• Accreditation.  Accreditation is a must thing for every university online business program. This is important because if you come from a non-accredited institution, you may find it hard to meet the demands and challenges in the business scene. To find if a program is accredited, you can check out the websites of such schools under consideration. More often than not, this information is posted there.

• Course delivery system. Though different schools offer different course delivery systems, there is no right or wrong in that part. Some schools teach through forums, videos, and a lot of other modern means. In the end, there is nothing wrong for your choice here. What only matter here is that the course delivery system you pick must be convenient for your time, lifestyle, and other factors.

• Curriculum. Before you enroll yourself in an online business university, carefully review the curriculum they are offering. This way, you know what the things that are covered by their program are and what disciplines are not. You can make a comparison of different online business schools’ curriculum for you to land a good choice. Another thing about the curriculum is that its coverage is usually budget-specific. Hence, make sure to choose the one that fits your finances but not necessarily sacrificing the quality of education you will receive.

• Financial aid. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur but is on a budget, it is good to check out for online business programs that offer financial aid. This way, you can get discounts for the fee to lessen up your bills. Plus, you can even apply for student debts for assistance.

Indeed, it is always important that you find a decent university online business program for yourself. Since there are a lot of scams in the internet, it will be worth every time and effort to make sure that the institution you are giving yourself to is legitimate and reputable. In the end, the institution you have trusted can make or break your dreams of being successful in the world of businesses.

Discovering an Exceptional Biology Graduate Program

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), located on San Diego’s coastline, is a Christian liberal arts college.  Originally founded as a Bible college by the Church of the Nazarene, it has expanded into one of California’s finest undergraduate and graduate Schools.  San Diego, being the ideal city for this excellent school, opened its doors to this church, and it has evolved into the university it is today.  Very few other graduate programs in San Diego offer the programs as well as character building that is available at this university.

Being renamed several times from the early 1900’s until present day, this college was once located in Pasadena. Even then, in 1949, it had a reputation for being one of the best graduate schools. The college relocated to San Diego in 1973 and has been there ever since, located on beautiful and picturesque Point Loma off the coastline of the Pacific Ocean.

Along with the landscape that PLNU has to offer its students, there is also an exceptional Biology graduate program available at this university.  Whether you want to go back to school or continue on with your education, PLNU has one of the most flexible graduate programs in San Diego.  If you would prefer to work while you are attending graduate school, a student can create a part-time schedule that perfectly suits your needs.  If you decide to attend full time, of course that can be accommodated as well.  Also, there are summer courses that one can attend so that you can reduce the amount of time it will take to get your degree.  This does not exist in some other graduate schools.  San Diego is the perfect city for PLNU’s many great academic programs, including their exceptional Biology Graduate Program.

If you are a teacher and want a typical Biology graduate program added to the strengths of a traditional master’s program in education, then you as a master’s student at PLNU will get the best of both worlds.  This “hybrid” works very successfully at PLNU as students take courses that are a blend of science and teaching.  As students learn the concepts taught in their science courses they will understand the exact challenges facing their students.  PLNU’s interesting hybrid program makes it one of the most innovative graduate programs in San Diego.  And because of their unique position of being a Christian college teaching a science, the teacher working toward a graduate degree will learn how to address the issue of science and religion.

A Beginning Weight Lifting Program for Women

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

So you decided to start incorporating weight training into your exercise regimen to firm up those muscles and rebuild your physique, but where do you start? Simply going into the weight room and throwing some dumbbells around will give you less than stellar results. Here is how to build a beginning weight lifting program.

Begin with an all-body routine. This will introduce your muscles to the stimuli of weights and build up your neuron activity. Choose one to two exercises per body part and do 3-4 sets of 10-12 reps. Do this workout 3 times a week, with at least one day of rest between workouts. Here is an example:

Chest – Bench Press

Shoulders – Shoulder Press, Lateral Raises

Biceps – Curls

Triceps – Pressdowns

Back – Lat Pulldowns, Bent Over Rows

Legs – Squats, Lunges

Hamstrings – Curls

Calves – Calf Raises

Abs – Crunches, Reverse Crunches

Do this routine for 4-6 weeks, you should notice yourself getting progressively stronger. At the end of the six weeks, graduate to an upper/lower body split routine.

An upper/lower body split means you work your upper body one day, then lower body the next. You can also perform more exercises per body part in the same amount of time. Do each upper body and lower body workout twice a week. Here is an example:

Upper Body

Chest – Bench Press, Cable Flye

Shoulders – Shoulder Press, Lateral Raises

Back – Lat Pulldowns, Seated Cable Row

Triceps – Skullcrushers, Pressdowns

Biceps – Curls, Concentration Curls

Lower Body

Quads – Squats, Lunges, Leg Extension

Hamstrings – Curls, Romanian Deadlift

Calves – Calf Raise, Seated Calf Raise

Abs – Crunches, Reverse Crunches, Oblique Crunches

So for example, you can do upper body on Monday and Thursday and lower body on Tuesday and Friday.
