Delhi University Admission Course

Many doubts, apprehensions and queries must be haunting the minds of thousands of fresh students, both from the Capital and outside, keen to study in DU. Here I am giving you the answers to selected of the most general questions asked by students about delhi university admissions. Numerous doubts, apprehensions and queries must be memorable the minds of thousands of young people, both from the Capital and outside, keen to study in DU. Here I am giving you the answers to various of the most general questions asked by students about delhi university admissions.

Are vocational subjects accepted by the Central Board of Secondary Education taken into significance while calculating the best-of-four-subjects’ percentage?
Of course, but with circumstances. Only one vocational subject will be counted for admission to the honours programme, while the limit can be extended to two in the case of other programmes. For example, if you have financial marketing management as one of the vocational subjects in Class XII, you can choose one vocational subject (say) opening to financial markets along with English and two optional subjects for access to the honours programmes.

Vocational + English (or any other language) + two electives = best four for honours programme In other programmes, you can acquire the liberty of considering two vocational subjects. In that case, best four can be computed in the following manner: First vocational + second vocational + English + one elective = best four for a non- honours programme.

I am keen to take admission in BA (Honours) in English and haven’t done well in Class XII. What can I do?
Don’t care. More or less a dozen colleges fill their seats through entrance tests and if you are genuinely interested, you should be able to get through as marks in the Class XII Board exams have minor bearing on the DU admissions method.

I am apprehensive of writing an entrance test because these are conducted only once courses are considered `hot’. I am sure my probability of clearing them are bleak given the competition.
You are correct. English Honours has become a hugely popular programme. But if you are well-versed in English literature to some extent, then you have good chances of qualifying. The test is basically meant to keep off those who don’t know what Shakespeare is known for. In the test you might be quizzed on the book that won Salman Rushdie the Booker, etc.

Do I need to fill only one centralised form for applying to any number of programmes in any number of colleges?
Yes. You may apply for any number of courses in any DU college. This also reduces the element of risk, because if you don’t get into the college of your choice, you’ll have other options available too.

There are a few exceptions, however, which require you to apply separately. These incorporate admission under sports and extra curricular activities’ quotas, or disabled students’ quota. Also, a separate form must to be filled for courses for which admis- sion is through tests, such as in Bachelor of business economics, Bachelor of mass media and mass communica- tion), Bachelor of business studies, BA in journalism (English or Hindi). And keep in mind, three colleges – St Stephen’s, Jesus & Mary and SGTB Khalsa — only allow separate and not the centralised forms.

Here are I am giving all the common questions about delhi university admissions, if you want more information log on to india academic.

How To Put Together a More attractive University Admission Essay

Writing essays and personal statements are crucial part of university admission application. With the ever increasing number of applicants for limited number of college seats, importance of well written coherent essays for securing admission in good universities cannot be overemphasized. Unlike from quantative metrics like GPA and other grades which judge a candidate´s academic ability, university admission essay try to judge the overall persona of the candidate.

The topics  of the essay on which the admissions aspirants are required to write may vary from university to university. Essays are a good medium for a candidate to showcase his/ her real self to the assessors. It is also a chance for the candidate to outshine others by putting up an interesting essay.

When writing the essays for college admission the most common questions in the mind of the candidates are what topics to choose? What should be the tone of essays? Which writing style should they adopt?

The answer to all this question is just one, the essay should be one that impresses the assessor.

If you are a university admission aspirant following tips can help you to put together an attractive university admission essay:

Via the essays the main aim of assessors is to judge your ability to think logically. An essay should be sequenced in a logical fashion which supports a smooth flow of thought. Abrupt breaks in the passage do not reflect well on your stream of thinking.

Try to make the essays interesting. Run of the mill, factual essays would not give you any head start. The assessors are also trying to look at your creative ability. Remember, an admission essay is not a research paper, so it need not be formulaic. An essay that makes an interesting read for assessors has much higher chances of success.

Be imaginative but truthful and sincere. The admission essay should be original and truly reflect ones personality. The admission officers can easily detect any lies beyond beautiful words.

In most of the admission essays the candidate is required to talk about personal incidences. Via this the admission officers are trying to know the real you. So do not pretend to be somebody else. Keep the tone of the essay a conversational one. Narrate the incidences as you would to a friend. Use of humor in right places can not only make your essay interesting for the reader but can also make your essay stand out amongst host of similar ones. Using witty catchy phrases, anecdotes or funny stories can leave a lasting impression on the mind of the reader.

The goal of the candidate should be to make the make the essay memorable. Admission officers read hundreds and thousands of essays to select few. They will not remember each and every essay but if you can make your essay stand out, your chances of selection drastically go up.

Do you want a University Admission Essay that will get you noticed. Buy essays for any subject and have them delivered directly to your computer.

Lincoln University of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was chartered in April 1854 as Ashmun Institute. As Horace Mann Bond, ’23, the eighth president of Lincoln University, so eloquently cites in the opening chapter of his book, Education for Freedom, this was “the first institution found anywhere in the world to provide a higher education in the arts and sciences for male youth of African descent.” The story of Lincoln University goes back to the early years of the 19th century and to the ancestors of its founder, John Miller Dickey, and his wife, Sarah Emlen Cresson. The Institute was renamed Lincoln University in 1866 after President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is surrounded by the rolling farmlands and wooded hilltops of southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. Its campus is conveniently located on Baltimore Pike, about one mile off US Route 1 — 45 miles southwest of Philadelphia, 15 miles northwest of Newark, Delaware, 25 miles west of Wilmington, Delaware, and 55 miles north of Baltimore, Maryland. Since its inception, Lincoln has attracted an interracial and international enrollment from the surrounding community, region, and around the world. The University admitted women students in 1952, and formally associated with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1972 as a state-related, coeducational university. Lincoln currently enrolls approximately 2000 students. Located in southern Chester County, Lincoln is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and

Lee’ According to an annual study conducted among students by the National Research Center for College & University Admissions (NRCCUA), a substantial percentage of students significantly overestimate the cost of college, and dramatically underestimate the amount of financial aid available to them.

This survey was conducted just prior to the start of the 2008-2009 school year and included over 8,000 participants.

According to NRCCUA annual student research:

A significant number of students believe they will not have any access to financial assistance: 33.6% of students estimate that they will receive no financial aid at all, including loans, when attending a major public university.

Students rule out colleges based on cost without a complete understanding: 43% of first generation students report they would not consider a college costing over ,000 per year.

Students have a dramatic misconception about the cost of private AND public colleges: 37.5% of students estimate costs at least 50% higher than the actual average cost of attending a major public university.

NRCCUA is scheduled to reissue this study this month to measure any impact that the current economic conditions may be having on students’ perceptions of paying for college.

College Admission Chances

College Admission Chances

Once you’ve handed in your college applications, you are probably pretty nervous about getting into college. Although you’ve finished your college application, included your high school transcripts, your SAT and ACT scores and your college essay, you are now probably wondering how does the admissions committee choose a college applicant to actually be an admitted student? How do they wade through all this information and come to a decision regarding your college admissions? What matters most and what gets glossed over? We are going to give you more of an inside look into the admissions decision process so that you know what will allow you to find the right college for you.

Transcripts: Your high school transcript is often the most important component of your college application. Your class work load and grades reveal what type of student you are and offer a glimpse into how you would work at their university. However, admissions officers are trained to know the discrepancies among different schools and class schedules. For example, at some schools, it’s easier to land an A than others. They also look at what types of courses you fulfilled. If you took honors classes, advanced placement or international baccalaureate classes, admissions officers will take this workload into account when reviewing your GPA.

Test Scores:
SAT and ACTs are being de-emphasized in many colleges, but these standardized tests do help the admissions officers compare students from different high schools across the nation. Most schools have a range that the majority of students fall under when determining acceptance, but a low test score generally won’t break all chances of getting into college.

Admissions Essay:
The college essay is a way to make you pop off the page. Now, instead of being a series of numbers and grades, you become an individual, unique person. This is therefore an increasingly important factor in the college admissions decision process. We suggest telling an anecdote about your life or your personality and describing how you have learned and grown from that experience.

Letters of Recommendation:
A really good letter of recommendation can really make a difference, but colleges don’t really penalize students when the letter is not written well or only offers superficial information. Here’s some of the stuff that admission officers are looking for:
• Comparisons to others in the class; to those whom the teacher or counselor has worked with in past years; or with students who have enrolled at the college in question.
• Information about grading and/or competition.
• Illustrative examples or anecdotes
• Personal information
• Other personal traits or study habits (e.g., maturity, response to criticism, acceptance by peers, timely completion of assignments, willingness to go beyond what is expected, participation in class discussions)
The law entitles students to see completed recommendations. However, reference forms include a clause that most students sign to waive this right. This enables counselors and teachers to be candid, which is what admission officials prefer. Recommendations normally do become part of a student’s permanent file.

Extracurricular Activities:
Extracurricular activities are important to show that you are an involved student. But with so many high school students doing so much and with so many programs and organizations, teams and clubs and causes, it’s hard to predict what admissions officers will favor. They are really looking for what the activities teach you—qualities like commitment, accomplishment, initiative and leadership and well-roundedness.
Here are some areas they look at:
• How much time does this student devote to an activity? How significant is the contribution? Admission professionals often favor depth over breadth.
• Evidence of leadership is a key factor that can tip the scales in your favor. There’s a difference between the student who joined the Geography Club and the one who founded it.
• Some balance is best. The student who participates in the Science Club, the Drama Club, and is also on the tennis team usually stands out more than the one who only chooses athletics as extras. Similarly, a balance of school related activities (clubs, teams, choirs, etc.) and those which take place elsewhere (volunteering, scouting, church groups, community theater, etc.) shows your horizon exists beyond the schoolyard.
• Volunteering is very important, and the key here is real hands on involvement. Admission people are usually able to differentiate between the candidate who spends every Saturday tutoring and one who volunteered a couple of times so they can add it to their application.
• A few collegiate candidates will up their stock in admission officers’ eyes by being extraordinarily talented in some area or with a truly off-the-wall interest or experience.

So now you know what happens behind the closed doors of the admissions decision. Still, with so many factors go into college admissions decisions that the results can sometimes seem unpredictable and off-the-mark. But don’t try to be someone you’re not—it’s all about being yourself, and that’s what’s going to really make you stand out in your college application.

CampusCompare facilitates the college search and selection process by providing info, reviews, and media, connecting students to over 3000 colleges.

How Important is the Interview in Your Application for School Admission?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

When you apply at a college or university, you will be asked to put together your application package, which normally consists of your transcripts, recommendation letters, test scores, resume, and personal statements.  The schools that you apply to are likely to send you a request for an interview if they are interested in admitting you to their school.  Whether the call for an interview is optional or not, you may want to take advantage of the opportunity to better your chances of getting admitted.  Some people find it difficult and even nerve-racking to go through admissions interviews, but it is an important part of the admissions process that plays a big role in whether or not you get accepted into school.  Read on for some helpful tips on acing your interview and sealing your slot in college.

Prepping yourself for the interview

Before you go through with the interview, you may want to do some research and prepare ahead of time.  The first thing you should do is settle the date for the interview.  Most likely, the school will already give you an interview date, but you may be able to ask for a change in schedule if necessary – just be sure not to ask for too much.  Once you have set your schedule for the interview, make sure that you allot enough time for preparation.  Try visiting the website of the school that will be interviewing you to see if they have any interview tips.  Some schools may have specific guidelines or policies that need to be followed for the interview, such as a dress code.

Perhaps the best way of preparing yourself for the admissions interview is to go through some of the commonly asked interview questions.  Sample questions can give you a good idea of what to expect and how to formulate your answers.  There are a lot of sources on the Internet that have sample interview questions, so take your time to research and prepare yourself for the questions that are likely to be asked.  Sure, the interviewer may throw in a few unexpected questions, but at least you will already be well prepared for most of the interview.

Interview DOs and DON’Ts

DOs:
-  Make sure to dress well, perhaps semi-formal or corporate attire would be best.
-  Be confident, but not boastful or arrogant.
-  Be honest and be yourself.
-  Ask educated and informed questions.
-  Remember that you are just having a conversation with another person, try not to be nervous.

DON’Ts:

-  No matter what, don’t be late.
-  Try not to deliver your answers as though they are prepared and practiced, instead be natural.
-  Don’t lie, even if you are tempted, because it will reflect badly on you if the truth comes out.
-  Don’t forget your manners, try not to be rude by interrupting, chewing gum, or being impolite.
-  Don’t forget to do some research on the college before you go in for your interview.

Conducting a simulated interview session with other applicants

Another helpful tip for acing your interview is to practice with other applicants, your parents, or perhaps even a teacher or counselor who is willing to help.  Not only will you get a feel for the tone of the interview, but you can also practice on delivering your answers more naturally, without being too nervous.

Top Academic and Admission Strategies for Colleges

With the rising cost of college, it is important to utilize as many cost cutting strategies as possible. Let’s explore some top academic and admission strategies to help reduce the cost of college.

1.Career Planning

Career planning is often overlooked during the college planning process. However, this is one of the most important decisions that students will make. Without proper career planning, many students take 5-6 years to complete a degree. Many students receive degrees in declining growth fields or fields with a surplus of applicants and cannot find employment after graduation.

However, this can play a critical role in reducing the overall cost of college. A contributing factor in the college dropout and transfer rates is a lack of career planning and a failure to make college decisions based on career goals. Research by the US Dept of Education and American College Testing show that each year, approximately 50% of college freshman leave the college in which they first enrolled. Of the dropouts, about 30% transfer to other colleges at least once, and 20% transfer twice and typically take 6 or more years to complete a 4-year program.

Students who receive career planning prior to college selection and attendance have few major changes and college transfers, graduate on time, and tend to be more goal- and academic-focused. You may want to check out web-based career planning services at www.careerdimension.com and www.myroad.com.

2. Use Smart Admission Strategies

Apply where the student is academically above the incoming freshman class profile. Private colleges place a premium on good students and will often use tuition discounts to attract them to their campuses.

Apply for admission early. The student should submit an application to the college as soon as possible in the senior year of high school (September through December). After a college begins to fill the upcoming year’s freshman class, the need for the college to offer a tuition discount diminishes. Colleges need to complete their enrollment quotas as early as possible, so they often offer scholarships (tuition discounts) to the students who apply early (even students who do not qualify for need-based aid).

Apply to schools that have a low enrollment yield factor. The lower a college’s enrollment yield (yield percentage), the higher the probability of the student receiving tuition discounts. The enrollment yield is calculated by dividing the number of students enrolled by the number of students admitted. Enrollment is key to a college’s survival. Many colleges select students for admission to their school, only to have them enroll in another school. The colleges have a constant battle to fill seats every year (lesser-known private colleges are even more challenged because they must compete with the low cost of public universities and the popularity of the elite private schools).

The student should also apply to private colleges. Many private colleges have declining enrollments due to their high cost and competition from low-cost universities and popular elite private colleges. These colleges often give a tuition discount to students to fill empty seats at the college. Private colleges must compete with less-expensive, state-subsidized public universities.

Many private colleges offer incredible financial award packages to attract good students. Plus they offer smaller class sizes, which increase the student’s chance of attaining a degree in four years. Be sure to include a few private colleges in your selection process. You might be surprised with the outcome.

The student should apply to six to eight colleges. Do not limit your ability to negotiate the price of college. Apply to several colleges to maximize your financial opportunities. By applying to several colleges, the student is given the opportunity to receive a tuition discount from one college and use that discount to ask for a comparative discount, or better, from the college the student prefers to attend. Try to pick at least several schools where your child lies in the top 25% of the incoming freshman class. This strategy is more applicable to students attending private colleges.

If the student is planning to attend a private college, the student should create competition between colleges. The following types of colleges will create competition for your child:

A college in the same athletic conference

The student should apply to colleges that are competitive in the same area or location, athletic conference, or intellectual fields. The most competition often occurs between colleges that are in the same athletic conference.

An in-state public university

Even though you plan to go to a private college, always apply to a good in-state public university. The public university’s low cost may force the private college to offer a tuition discount to make its cost competitive with the public university’s cost. Low-cost public universities are the private colleges’ main competition.

A similar college outside of the student’s region of residency

The student should apply to similar private colleges that are located outside of the student’s region of residency. Most private colleges try to achieve regional diversity in its student body. The college may offer tuition discounts to entice students who are located in a different region.

3. Use the CLEP Program and AP Tests to Reduce the Cost of College

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States today. Although Advanced Placement (AP) courses are usually taken by above-average students, CLEP exams seem to benefit the average student and also the non-traditional (adult ed) student. The CLEP examinations are a series of examinations in undergraduate college courses that provide the student with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement and achieve college credit. The examinations, which are sponsored by the College Board, are administered at colleges year-round. All CLEP exams are delivered on computer, providing test takers with instant score results. Be sure to check the college’s CLEP policy before taking any exam. The CLEP program can help students save time, save money, and advance to more specialized courses.

Perhaps the easiest and most effective way for a student to stand out academically for admissions is to score well on Advanced Placement (AP) tests offered by the College Board (www.collegeboard.com). While these studies are for the academically gifted student, they can represent real dollar reductions in the cost of college. The student can receive a full year’s credit and be granted sophomore standing from more than 1,400 higher education institutions by earning satisfactory grades on enough AP Examinations.
