How to Calculate the Appropriate Amount of Tuition Insurance

How to calculate the amount of tuition insurance needed varies based on two factors. Tuition and fees make up a large portion of the total expense and essentially pay for the education that is acquired.  Along with these costs, you must also factor in other expenses of living that students will incur while attending college.  By combining tuition and fees with the other living expenses, an estimated total cost of college can be calculated.

A recent survey conducted by College Parents of America, focused on two major sectors of U.S. higher education, 4-year colleges and universities with large enrollments and 4-year colleges and universities ranked among the most expensive by total cost of attendance.  The two reports on college tuition reimbursement for medical withdrawal were completed and released in February 2010.  Each sector sampled 100 colleges and universities, totaling to 178 schools due to some institutions appearing on both lists.

4-year colleges and universities with large enrollments

Of the 100 schools surveyed, 97 have clearly listed tuition and fee refund schedules, while three provide only information regarding a tuition and fee refund appeal process. The amount of refunds received after the 5th week of classes varied between the 97 schools with listed refund schedules.

At 61 schools, 0% of tuition and refundable fees
At 14 schools, less than 50% of tuition and refundable fees
At 7 schools, exactly 50% of tuition and refundable fees
At 15 schools, over 50% (includes schools that refund pro-rata)

Therefore, out of the 97 4-year universities examined, after the 5th week of classes in a given term:

63% do not refund any tuition or refundable fees for medical withdrawal
85% refund 50% or less for medical withdrawal

The most expensive 4-year colleges and universities

Out of the 100 surveyed, only 97 schools have clearly listed tuition and fee refund schedules, the remaining 3 provided no information regarding refund schedules.  The approximate total cost of attendance for this sample group ranges from ,000 to ,000 per year.  The amount of refunds received after the 5th week of classes in a given term due to medical withdrawal can be broken down like so:

At 45 schools, 0% of tuition and refundable fees
At 19 schools, less than 50% of tuition and refundable fees
At 10 schools, exactly 50% of tuition and refundable fees
At 23 schools, over 50% (includes school that refund pro-rata)

Therefore, after the 5th week of classes in a given term,

46.4% do no refund any tuition or refundable fees for medical withdrawal
76.3% refund 50% or less for medical withdrawal

As shown from the statistics of the study, without tuition insurance, a full refund is not attainable in the event of medical withdrawal at the surveyed institutions.  With tuition insurance, students can receive up to ,000 of annual coverage, depending on which level of coverage is purchased.

While large sums of coverage are attainable, cost of coverage is very minimal.  Depending on the needs of each student, the correct amount of coverage can be purchased for 1.2% – 2.4% of the total coverage.  By combining the cost of tuition with other incurred costs of living, the correct coverage amount can be calculated.

Thousands of British students and lecturers marched on Parliament Wednesday, protesting a plan to hike tuition fees three times the current rate. (Nov. 10)

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 11, 2008

TuitionBids.com is pleased to offer a more cost effective way for people to apply for student loans. Their innovative approach enables those who are in need of either a private or federal student loan to submit applications to up to six lenders who in turn bid for the right to do business with that customer.

The TuitionBids.com process allows users to create an online profile and customize their student loan search. The user’s information is then sent out to lenders and banks who then “bid” for the consumers’ business. The consumers choose from up to six lenders who they can then speak with about their student loan needs. By speaking to multiple lenders, students and parents are able to make the most informed decisions and make sure that they are receiving the best, most affordable loan available.

The true bidding nature of the TuitionBids.com website helps to drive the cost of private loans down. TuitionBids.com works with 10 lenders to provide the best loan offers to consumers with plans to expand to 15 lenders within the next few months. By working with fewer lenders, greater information is provided to about each lender that helps consumers stay informed without overloading them. This also creates a favorable situation for lenders, as they are not dividing their leads amongst a large number of competitors. A small, yet substantial number of lenders creates a win-win situation for both lenders and consumers.

TuitionBids.com co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Keith Alliotts, elaborates on the benefits of this service; “With the ever-increasing cost of college tuition, consumers are forced to seek out financial assistance from both federal loans as well as the private sector. As federal loans only provide so much assistance, TuitionBids.com is here to act as a resource for education about the best types of private loans, as well as working to provide the most affordable solution to each consumer, based on their individual needs.”

How to Pay College Tuition costs

If you are reading this article you obviously you have college tuition costs to pay and you want to know how to get the best bang for your buck.

Tuition Costs are at record highs and the economy is in the dumper. This places us under an incredible amount of stress and anxiety trying to figure out HOW to pay college tuition costs that are growing every year?

A four year college education can cost, in some cases, OVER 0,000!

Here is what I did to get the maximum funding through grants and scholarship for my students and I have three in college AT THE SAME TIME! Listen, if you’re seriously concerned about how you are going to pay for college tuition let me tell you what I did and what resources I used to make getting the most possible free college tuition possible.

I started out doing what most of us do; I paid for my first Childs tuition in full out of pocket for the first semester. After that shocker I decided to apply for a student loan. However, after realizing that either my daughter or I would be responsible for, somewhere in the neighborhood of 0,000, just for one of my children, I knew I had to do something and do it quickly, before the next semester.

So I hit the internet, the library and the book stores. I found some great information through those sources and discovered that there were a lot of grants and scholarships to pay college tuition costs; however, it was always a hassle to make the phone calls, wait on hold and then go through the same details time and again.

Now there are specialized “consultants” that claim they will guide you through the process and direct you to the best grant and scholarship possibilities for your particular child available. So I write a check for 5.00 and told him to get started. For 5.00 he went through the FASFA application with me! That was all. I did not need him for that, but I also discovered that NO one else but you can fill that application out anyway. Needless to say I was not a happy camper.

So back to my own research

On the internet I was able to locate a lot of different grants and scholarships that were designed to pay college tuition costs. The problem I ran into was that I had a difficult time finding them again and I was not all that computer savvy. I did make some applications and was able to get some fairly decent money to pay for the next semester. Basically the well know grants, such as the Pell Grant, College Housing Grant, Scholarship money for making the Dean’s list and work study to name a few that are easy to find, but not enough that would make a difference when my next daughter went to college.

Found my Savior

One night while searching the internet for ways to locate “little known” Grants to pay for college tuition costs, I stumbled across an advertisement for an ebook that indicated it had all the “secret” locations to obtain free college tuition. Obviously this piqued my interest, as it would any parent struggling with this tuition headache we face today and read more about it.

I am a person who is always suspicious of anything sold on the internet, regardless of the price or how good it sounds, but this guy claimed to have done everything that I had been trying to do. For example:

I have personally researched and reviewed the best locations on the internet, within Colleges and Universities, Government programs and Grants and where to find Grants and Scholarships to provide you with Free College Tuition and Free College Living expenses
I have pinpointed the exact places you need to get to so you too can receive the best possible funding opportunities to pay for college tuition!

To me, time is money and I had already spent a lot of time on the internet, reading books and talking with college admission people. I wasn’t getting any new possibilities from those sources. There was as he put it, an “8 week zero risk guarantee” so for a little less than I gave it a shot, after all I paid that other “consultant” 5.00.

As someone with little patience I downloaded the ebook immediately and started to go through it. Well all I can tell you is that it became my one source to locate and discover many different and little known grants and scholarships to pay college tuition costs.

In addition to providing the links to get me directly to the source of the grant or scholarship, he provided me with help and preparation to get through the process quicker and with less stress. There was a link to every site that could help anyone’s child get Grants or Scholarships to pay college tuition costs. There are even direct links to every single college and university in the US. This ebook made my life a simpler and the best part, I was able to locate grants and scholarships that my daughter qualified for that I would have never known about if I had not purchased that ebook , The Secret of Getting Free college tuition, Revealed!”

Every one’s child is different and will eligible for different types of grants or scholarships, but if you do not know they are available, you simply can not get them. At the end of the day, I applied for and my daughter received more than 90% of her tuition costs in Grants and scholarships. In fact I was even able to recouped most of the money I laid out in the first semester.

Could I have discovered the same scholarships and grants that the author did, maybe? Could I have done it in time to pay for the tuition costs? No.

I am sure you believe this is a sales pitch for the ebook, as I would. That is OK with me, I was just so happy with the results I was able to get using this ebook that I felt it would be a good service to tell people about it. I might feel differently if it did not have a guarantee, but it does and I don’t think anyone will want to return it after using it for a week or so.

Good luck with paying tuition costs

SAGE Scholars is expanding its base of colleges and universities that participate in the Tuition Rewards Program. “We formed SAGE in Pennsylvania and the PA TAP 529 Program was our first financial partner, so we are strongest in this region”, stated SAGE founder and CEO, Dr. James Johnston. However, the Tuition Rewards program is becoming more prominent in other parts of the country as more schools and families grasp the Tuition Rewards concept of guaranteed discounts off tuition.

The Tuition Rewards Program now has a strong presence in the mid-West, particularly in Illinois where SAGE is partnered with ten private schools and where the Horace Mann Insurance Company is located; Horace Mann has over 140,000 families earning Tuition Rewards on its annuity products. The most recent school to join the Tuition Reward consortium, Monmouth College, is located in Monmouth Illinois and is the 182nd school nationally to partner with SAGE.

Recently, the Tuition Rewards Program has gained interested from a number of New England colleges and universities. Schools such as Green Mountain College in Vermont, Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire, and Anna Maria College, Western New England College and Springfield College in Massachusetts, have all joined the Tuition Reward Program within the last six months. Springfield College is the most recent New England addition to the Tuition Rewards Program and is the seventh Massachusetts school to participate. “The attractiveness of Springfield as a member of SAGE is its international reputation in Physical Education and its mission for human services. I believe that Springfield brings SAGE another institution with national reputation and will help attract others institutions of similar nature to SAGE,” stated Robert Palmer, SAGE’s Vice President of College Relations.

More about SAGE Scholars:

SAGE Scholars is an education funding and information provider specializing in college savings and tuition planning. SAGE uniquely brings together scholarships, student loans, 529s and other investments, college search and cost calculators to help families and financial professionals plan for college expenses. SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program is currently the largest private college savings program, in terms of the number of participating students, with over 82,000 sponsored children ages birth to twelfth grade. Families can earn Tuition Rewards through Pennsylvania’s TAP 529 Program, Horace Mann, Ziegler, Monetta Funds, North Track Funds, Asset Marketing Systems’ network of financial planners, and through other partner firms.

Comment: This graffiti says: Tuitions, no thank you. It is one of the many graffiti on this topic that you can find in Ljubljana and other parts of Slovenia. Most of them appeared when the tuitions were one of the political issues and the government wanted to change the legislation about it. The students resisted, there were protests and the graffiti were just one way to express how we felt

How to Calculate the Appropriate Amount of Tuition Insurance

Tuition insurance is a great way to cover your college investment.  With that being said, you need to make sure you have the appropriate amount of coverage.  The coverage can be broken down into factors, cost of attendance and cost of living.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) November 21, 2008

Capital University (Columbus, OH), which has provided generations of students with a quality, values-based educational experience since its founding in 1830 by the Lutheran Church, is now a member of the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards college & university enrollment marketing consortium. Capital is the 21st college to join Tuition Rewards in 2008.

“The short-term enrollment consequences of the current economic malaise demand creative and aggressive marketing strategies, and our Tuition Rewards Consortium is just that,” declared Dr. James B. Johnston, chairman and CEO of SAGE Scholars. “An almost perfect storm of economic turmoil and unfavorable demographic trends make participation in the Tuition Rewards Consortium more important than ever.”

Capital’s 2,344 undergraduates have a choice of 60 majors. The Conservatory of Music and School of Communication offers 11 varied music majors, including composition, jazz studies, music merchandising and music technology. Students can also select from majors in the schools of Humanities; Management and Leadership; Natural Sciences, Nursing and Health; and, Social Sciences and Education.

Capital offers a caring learning environment, preparing students for lifelong learning, leadership and service. Capital offers opportunities for students to follow their passions with more than 70 student organizations; cultivate their faith with a full and fulfilling spiritual life; and stay active with 18 NCAA Division III varsity sports. Capital is regularly included in Barron’s 300 Best Buys in College Education. Capital is listed annually among the top 20 Midwest schools in the master’s category of the U.S. News & World Report ranking of America’s Best Colleges.

130,000+ students are now enrolled in Tuition Rewards, which fosters a dynamic relationship among families, colleges and financial institutions. 28,000+ students have joined in 2008. When registered students attend one of the participating private four-year colleges, the family’s accumulated Tuition Reward points may be redeemed as a “scholarship” – a non-need based grant or discount – of up to one full year’s tuition.

Families earn Tuition Rewards by saving for college with a variety of financial partners, including the Pennsylvania and Wisconsin state 529 college savings programs and firms such as Allstate, The College Tuition Benefit and Wells Fargo. Tuition Rewards is now the largest U.S. private college savings program (based on participating students and the value of eligible assets).

Capital is the 16th Tuition Rewards member in the state of Ohio, joining Ashland University, Heidelberg College, Hiram College, Lake Erie College, Malone College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Otterbein College, The College of Wooster, Tiffin University, University of Findlay, Ursuline College, Walsh University, Wilberforce University, Wilmington College and Wittenberg University.

About SAGE Scholars:

SAGE was founded in 1995 by Dr. James B. Johnston, former Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Wharton Graduate School, University of Pennsylvania. SAGE’s Tuition Reward plan is now the largest U.S. private college savings program — based on the number of participating students and value of eligible assets. In this time of financial turmoil, the only sure thing for many college-savings plans has been decline and volatility. That’s not the case for families who enroll in the Independent 529 prepaid tuition plan. All of the risk for investment returns rests with the participating colleges, not investors. Families lock in future tuition or a portion of future tuition, at today’s rates, plus an additional discount that varies from school to school, and the colleges commit to cover the difference between today’s price and future price and bear the risk for investing the money.

Dickinson last year enhanced its stake in the I-529 plan, guaranteeing families an annual rate of return on their investment of an unprecedented 4 percent above the rate of increase in tuition. The college’s previous rate of return was 1 percent above inflation. The 4 percent return above inflation is double the next best rate offered by any of the 274 colleges and universities participating in the plan. Each member institution sets its own rate.

The I-529 Plan freezes the price of higher education at the tuition rate during the year of investment, guaranteeing families a return on their investment equivalent to annual tuition price increases, compounded over the holding period. Historically, tuition increases have been between 5 and 6 percent a year at Dickinson and its peer institutions.

Therefore, the inclusive return equals tuition increases (average of 6 percent) plus 4 percent annually, for a tax-free return of around 10 percent, depending on the tuition increase. Returns accumulate and compound free of federal income taxes and all fees are paid by the I-529 consortium of participating colleges and universities.

The Independent 529 Plan is overseen by Tuition Plan Consortium, a nonprofit collaboration of schools created to establish the only 529 prepaid tuition plan specifically for private colleges and universities nationwide.

For information about Dickinson College’s I-529 plan, contact David Walker, associate vice president and associate treasurer at Dickinson College, at 717-245-1010. More information about the college’s I-529 plan is available at: http://www.dickinson.edu/news/nrshow.cfm?1320.

Getting Committed Tutors From a Singapore Home Tuition Agency

Getting Committed Tutors From a Singapore Home Tuition Agency

In Singapore, many parents and students want only committed tutors from tuition agencies. However, as much as they would like to recommend committed tutors , they cannot guarantee that all their tutors will be 100% committed due to various difficulties and reasons. From our past experience, below are some of the factors that may affect the suitability and commitment of the tutors :

Location
If a tutor’s student lives near his house, the tutor may settle for a lower tuition fee and may be more committed since he is able to cut down on travelling time and thus save on transportation fees.
It is therefore beneficial for a parent to provide a tuition agency with his or her postal code and/or detailed address, so that the tuition agency can find tutors as near to the parent’s residence as possible.

Salary
A tutor’s salary may not be the most important of all, but it is significant.
Tutors who take up a low-paying assignment may not commit for a long period. A tuition rate that is -15 less than the market rate may be acceptable to a tutor. However, if a parent pays about less than the market rate, the tutor will most likely not commit for long. He or she may even feel unmotivated towards teaching as well.

It is well known that teaching is a respected profession; and MOE teachers nowadays are well paid by the ministry. So our advice to parents is that: give the tutors out there the rewards they deserve. The popular saying “Good stuff comes at a price” applies in this case as well.

Difficult Students
Usually, tutors want to commit their time to teach students who are keen to learn and improve. Moreover, tutors may not be able to help students who don’t wish to help themselves. It takes two hands to clap. So before a parent requests for a change of tutor, he or she should find out whether his child is keen to learn from the child’s tutor in the first place. In certain cases, it may not be the tutor’s fault at all when there is no academic improvement.
So, when a parent request for a tutor from a tuition agency, letting the agency know the character of the child may help the agency in finding the right tutor.

Guide on Choosing a Good Tuition Teacher

Guide on Choosing a Good Tuition Teacher

Overview

Home tuition is the surest of ways of improving grades in Singapore and I don’t think I need to emphasize on the importance of grades in Singapore. One typical classroom size in a school here is about 40 pupils.

Forty is too many

With this number, there is no way the teacher can get the full attention of all the students at all. You don’t believe me? Just try to talk to 40 people at one go. Your children probably spend more time talking among themselves than listening to the teachers anyway.

So am I saying that to provide the best chance of education for your child, you should immediately get a tuition teacher right now? Food for thought.

In Singapore, Tuition is useful

How useful home tuition is totally depends on the tuition teacher. It is extremely important to get the right tutor.

Some people pay a minimal fee and see results quickly; some pay much more but is left exasperated after only a few months into the tuition, others try to teach their children themselves and end up beating the child. So what is the secret? Read on and you might just get lucky.

Bad tuition agencies

There are numerous tuition agencies around in Singapore . Many who have tried to employ a tutor through these agencies end up shaking their heads in disgust. I have heard of many tuition agencies that send male instead of female tutors to teach dispite of an agreement before-hand, tuition teachers that quit after a few lessons and tuition teachers that scold the students all the time.

Good tuition agencies

For every bad experience some parents have, there are good experiences too. The trick here is to find the correct tuition agency.

Established agencies

To find a good tuition agency, look for one that has is established. They are more concerned with quality because they have to build a brand name. How do you know if they are established?

They are usually registered and pay taxes, you will know because they will have to send you the bill and invoice They usually have professional looking website and not some made with half hearted attempts.

Good tuition agencies keep track of their tutors

Try to look for an agency that keeps track of their tutors, you’ll know because they usually have feedback forms and such.

To employ a qualified good private home tutor, here’s the link.

Valparaiso University Joins SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program
The 189th school, Valparaiso University, has joined SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program. Over 83,000 families are now earning Tuition Rewards making SAGE the largest private college savings program in America in terms of the number of participants.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 13, 2006

One of the leading Lutheran universities in America, Valparaiso University (IN), has joined SAGE’s Tuition Rewards Program. “We are very pleased that Valparaiso has joined the Tuition Rewards consortium,” stated Dr. James Johnston, SAGE’s founder and CEO. “Valparaiso is an excellent institution and we hope that its example in joining SAGE will encourage more colleges and universities to do the right thing, which is to urge families to save for college.”

Valparaiso is one of many schools encouraging families to save for college by honoring Tuition Rewards. 189 private colleges and universities across the country are partnered in the Tuition Rewards Program, including five Indiana schools. Families, in turn, are taking note. Over 83,000 families are earning Tuition Rewards Points through SAGE’s network of financial partners.

How it works:

Families earn Tuition Rewards by saving with SAGE’s financial partners, a list that includes Pennsylvania’s TAP 529 Plan, Horace Mann Insurance, B.C. Ziegler Brokers, Monetta Funds and Asset Marketing Systems. Each year families earn Tuition Rewards Points equal to 5% of their eligible assets. Tuition Rewards Points accrue like frequent flyer miles on TuitionRewards.com and when a student applies to one of the member schools, the Tuition Rewards account holder simply submits the Tuition Rewards statement to the school. If the student is admitted and matriculates to the SAGE college or university, the school will give the student a scholarship at least equal to the size of the Tuition Rewards – up to one full year’s tuition.

Colleges have been joining the Tuition Rewards Program at a steady rate. In the last three months ten schools have partner with SAGE, including Springfield College (MA), Robert Morris University (PA), Missouri Valley College (MO), Colby-Sawyer College (NH), Houston Baptist University (TX), and, of course, Valparaiso University (IN).

About Valparaiso:

Founded in 1859, Valparaiso University has been known for its outstanding liberal arts education and professional programs. Its location in northwest Indiana gives students the benefits of the premier city of Chicago, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan and the friendliness of the residential community of Valparaiso.

Valparaiso belongs to a small and distinctive group of institutions of higher education that consistently receives national recognition for the quality of their educational programs. U.S. News & World Report regularly names Valparaiso as one of the best comprehensive universities in the midwest in its annual rankings of “America’s Best Colleges.” In addition, U.S. News ranked Valparaiso among the “best college values” based on a ratio of price to quality, and declared Valpo’s College of Engineering as one of the nation’s top 20 undergraduate-only engineering schools.
