I was NOT a student in 2008, but I have tuition credits left over from previous years that I can still claim. On the BC(S11) it says to use your FEDERAL unused tuition if your tuition is from another province, but this is confusing me. I already have to claim the federal tuition on a federal S11, so if I do it on this BC(S11) then I am claiming my federal tuition twice, and not claiming my left over provincial at all.
Can some one explain how this works?

You use the federal amount of unused tuition/education amounts. The carryover amounts are in most cases the same federally and provincially.
You are not “claiming” anything twice. You are using one number to make two calculations: one for the federal credit, and one for the provincial credit.
The federal credit will be deducted from the federal carryover amount to produce your 2009 federal tuition/education amount.
The provincial credit on BC(S11) will then determine your 2009 provincial tuition/education amount.
