Irish Dance Tuition

Competition Irish Dancing requires great dedication from both teacher and dancer. See how one Lincoln-based young girl trains for the 2009 All-Ireland Competition.

Did she jst forget to tell her to lift her feet?!

  2. eirinn65 says:

Her teacher is doing her job… so that’s ok… what is not ok is dancing on concrete…. specially with hard shoes… that’s a killer for your knees and ankles….ouch…

  3. Candyswan says:

My teacher always says “imagine that somebody pulls your pony tail up” :) And that’s a nice advice on posture :)

  4. tulipagirl says:

She’s too worried about the girls chin when she should be worried about other things such as her pointing

  5. itunebbc says:

The dancer wore the dress for the filming only. The venue and the teacher have produced dancers who are in the world top 10. They featured recently on BBC Look North before they departed to Philadelphia for the World Finals.

  6. flonkoo says:

is that concrete ground *OUCH* do you always practice in dress

  7. mixxy5alive says:

The problem with this teacher is incorrect instruction on posture. She keeps pushing the kids chin up, forcing her to ‘lean into’ the steps. Her hands are also incorrect. They flap around because she is trying to get the height on the steps with no arch in her back.

  8. Oireachtaness says:

fantastic!!! gorgeous dress. i have an issue with sitting on my trebles too. *sigh* im not sure how to remedy it either?

  9. seanmharcailin says:

did you even listen to the vid? Her teacher is doing an excellent job of telling her what she needs to work on. Like your advice is going to do anything more. *You’re* probably sitting into your trebles as well.

  10. RinceorNosretep says:

It’s a good idea to practice a few times with the dress on so you get used to the weight and feel. That way you don’t get up on stage and freeze up because your dress feels unfamiliar and you’re afraid of it flapping your legs or something.

How did she do at AI?

  12. flonkoo says:

you must point your toes down while your kicking

  13. flonkoo says:

you must point your toes down whilst kicking up

  14. cutiecare5579 says:

and you MUST get off your heels and turn outttt!!!
+ pull up!! your sitting into your shuffles

  15. cutiecare5579 says:

do you normally practice in your competition dres?? wierd if you do.
and are you dancing on ciment??
ouch, youll be getting shin splints!!!

  16. anitajd says:

caroline is a lovely teacher, she used to teach me:)

  17. fleadisneyfan says:

I think you need to turn ur feet out and ur quite flat footed :S

  18. laurenheslin says:

You have such a lovely teacher! Keep up the ace work :)

  19. minipoppy37 says:

you have more stamina then me! keep going over n over steps without much pause! hehe, but deffo work on what your teacher is saying, although i totally understand its easier said than done! floor looks a week bit hard though?

  20. irishlass777 says:

keeping the lines straight and getting “up” as the teacher is saying, can not really be achieved by sticking the chin out. a strong upper body comes from a strong core and toned abdominal muscles.then the head and arms can relax, creating a more effortless look, rather than a forced and tired looking dancer.

  21. purpleirishdancer1 says:

Watch you tend to lean to your left. Nice steps. if you keep working on what your teacher was saying you’ll do well. good luck.

  22. Costumes says:

    I really like that costume
